When a web visitor clicks through your affiliate link, a cookie
is set in their browser that contains your affiliate code. Also, their IP address is tracked in the database along with your affiliate code.
IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ
On 26th May 2011 a new EU legislation
anyone clicking a tracking link in the European Union will have the option of accepting this cookie or not. This may impact on affiliate sales, but there is nothing I can do about this, as this is now the law.
Update: Depending on the rules after Brexit, this may be removed. Keep checking back for news.
When this person decides to buy a product, the software website will look for this cookie
(if set) and/or try to match their initial click with your account. Visitors sent through your affiliate code may make a purchase later in time and the commission will still be awarded if the cookie
is present in their browser.
